CCLD Networks Installs New Meru Wireless Network and Handles Over 13,000 Simultaneous Users During ISTE 2014

ATLANTA, GA – In late 2013, CCLD Networks began evaluating different wireless vendors in anticipation of some highly technical events at the Georgia World Congress Center in 2014. After months of analyzing many products, CCLD Networks chose to partner with Meru Networks. CCLD Networks installed over 300 Meru AP832 access points throughout the GWCC as part of this upgrade to cover the 3.9 million foot facility. The Meru AP832 is 802.11ac compliant making the GWCC the first convention center to provide 802.11ac service throughout the venue.

“Meru offers a unique way of providing wireless that intrigued us,” said Jim Jenkins, Administration Director with CCLD Networks. “Providing wireless service to all devices on the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz spectrums in highly dense areas is always challenging, but Meru’s airtime fairness handles the users flawlessly. We have connected more users simultaneously using this system than we had previously without issues. We are very impressed and happy with our decision to pick Meru as a partner. They were extremely helpful throughout the whole process including the initial evaluation, procurement process, initial implementation and onsite support.”

ISTE Conference and Expo (July 2014) – For more than three decades the ISTE Conference and Expo has been the premier forum in which to learn, exchange ideas and survey the field of education technology. The event attracts upwards of 18,000 attendees and industry representatives – including teachers, technology coordinators, administrators, library media specialists, teacher educators and policy makers. Attendees enjoy world-class keynotes, hundreds of sessions in a variety of formats and a massive expo hall.

The use of mobile devices at the show has grown quickly in recent years, with 7,000 peak simultaneous connections in 2013 and more than 13,000 in 2014. The growth is driven by BYOD and by the structure of the sessions, which are increasingly interactive. Attendees are encouraged to use their laptops, tablets and smart phones to engage speakers and use the applications they are presenting. During ISTE 2014, attendees regularly pushed the limits of the GWCC’s gigabit Internet Connection.

“ISTE is one of the most network intensive events in the country. It was very satisfying to have such a great event and we are excited to have them back in the future. Many hours of planning and prep work were required but it was all worth it in the end as the customer was extremely happy. We had over 40 hard wired networks and several different wireless networks but everything worked tremendously well under such a heavy load. We couldn’t have asked for anything better from a network perspective.” – Thomas Lloyd, Operations Director for CCLD Networks.
