Wi-Fi Challenges and Solutions

Providing wireless internet services for a dense trade show environment can present many challenges.  For example, a General Session with thousands of attendees requiring wireless connectivity is very demanding on a wireless network.  It is imperative to have proper planning ahead of the event in order for the service to be successful.

During a recent Salesforce event at the Georgia World Congress Center, CCLD Networks installed twenty additional wireless access points for a General Session in one full exhibit hall.  A detailed channel plan was required in order to avoid saturation on each access point.  The power levels were adjusted to ensure the wireless signal from the AP’s was strong enough to provide service with all of the noise in the airwaves.  Each session drew 5,500 attendees and over 3,000 simultaneous users connected during each session.  Both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless frequencies were utilized during the sessions.

“Salesforce is one of many events that have requested service for thousands of users over the past few years.  We feel that we offer the best wireless solution available as we can provide service in both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz ranges for attendees and exhibitors whereas other wireless systems have extreme difficulty providing service in both wireless frequencies.”
– Thomas Lloyd, CCLD Networks Operations Director

The 2.4Ghz wireless frequency only has three available wireless channels and can become saturated in a dense environment.  Attendees and exhibitors cannot connect and become frustrated at events.  CCLD Networks has a solution in place at our locations that solves this issue for attendees and exhibitors.  Many events have mentioned afterwards that their Wi-Fi service worked without issue which they had not experienced at other venues.

Most facilities will tell customers up front that only devices within the 5Ghz wireless frequency will operate on the exhibit floor and that any 2.4Ghz devices will not work properly.  For the convention centers that we manage, we do now offer Wi-Fi services to booths on the exhibit floor no matter which frequency their device may operate within.

CCLD Networks is proud to offer Wi-Fi services to exhibitors and not have to worry about telling each customer that only 5Ghz devices will work.  Many times, the customers are not able to tell which frequency their device operates within and do not know until they arrive at their event when their device doesn’t work which is too late.  Our network engineers designed a unique system that has benefited everyone including show management, exhibitors, attendees and the convention centers.
